They provide a detailed account of the events in October and November of 1988 leading up to the buyout, as well as biographies of major players in the takeover attempt. They interviewed all the major people -executives, lawyers, bankers and Wall Street traders - involved in the story, as well as many others. In 1989, they obtained additional information for the book by doing over 100 interviews. They wrote a series of articles about the takeover attempt. It was co-written by Bryan Burrough and John Helyar, both journalists for the Wall Street Journal. It was the largest takeover in Wall Street history.
